Reviewing Young Sheldon All Seasons
Season 1 - Score: 10/10
From the Pilot episode, Young Sheldon already seemed a step above the rest. Its witty humor and fast-paced plot create an engaging and memorable show. The first season provides fresh ideas to the plate, unraveling Sheldon's quirky and ignorant behavior. Iain Armitage's stellar performance only adds to the show's addictiveness. Screenwriter Chuck Lorre mixes reality and fiction throughout the season to create a relatable yet hilarious story.
Season 2 - Score: 9.5/10
Season 2 continues almost as if it were still season 1. The humor remains similar with many jokes relating to family drama and Sheldon's ignorance. There is more character development in the second season with the introduction of Paige and Dr. Sturgis. However, neither of the characters is very likable with Dr. Sturgis seeming to be more senile and annoying than funny. Unlike many shows that have repetitive plots and situations, Young Sheldon still provides innovative storylines for each episode.
Season 3 and 4 - Score: 9.5/10
The following 2 seasons finish out similarly to the first and second. It continues to focus on Sheldon yet now involves Meemaw, Missy, and Mary regularly in the plots. While their behavior is less amusing than Sheldon's, the variety in the show maintains our interest. Dr. Sturgis also appears regularly, bringing down the performance of the show. His annoying habits and introverted behavior arouse irritation and frustration. Despite this setback, seasons 3 and 4 both maintain an intriguing storyline.
Season 5 - Score: 7.5/10
Young Sheldon's quality begins to decline after the first 4 seasons. This is mainly the result of SPOILER: Mandy's accidental impregnation. With the focus on Mandy and Georgie, Sheldon no longer seems the main character. Missy also seems to announce more attention as she becomes more emotional and attention-grabbing. However, the parts in which Sheldon is included are spectacular. His conversations with the president of the university create memorable scenes and further grow Sheldon as a character.
Season 6 - Score: 5.5/10
The first half of this season plays out very similarly to Season 5. Mandy and Georgie take a large part of the spotlight, but Sheldon still shines with his quirky humor. His college adventures remain engaging, provided they aren't overshadowed by Dr. Sturgis's tedious antics. During the second half of the season, the show takes a turn for the worse. The episodes focus almost entirely on Mandy and Georgie, whose increasingly somber situation shifts the tone from sitcom to family drama. With fading humor, this season seems to be more of a setup for the upcoming spin-off, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage.
Season 7 - Score: 4/10
The last season of Young Sheldon was truly a disappointment. We wished that the spark at the beginning of the show would reignite, but instead, it seemed to dwindle even more. The season was quite short, with 14 episodes instead of the normal, 22. The show seems as if it were jumbled together and squeezed into as few episodes as possible. Sheldon's trip to Germany concludes in only 3 episodes when it could probably have lasted an entire season. This causes the trip to seem like a second thought. When Sheldon arrives home, the narrative quickly shifts back to the lives of Mandy and Georgie. After a few episodes of discombobulated dialogue, Young Sheldon reaches its climax with SPOILER: the death of George. This event and its aftermath seem rushed and barely acknowledged. While the entire show has focused on character development and connection, this seems to do the opposite. Thankfully, the final episode was quite interesting, as Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik reprised their roles as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler.
Overall, "Young Sheldon" offers a captivating look into the early life of one of TV's most beloved characters, Sheldon Cooper. The first 4 seasons offer an interesting and humorous narrative of the young child. However, as the series progresses, the shift in focus towards secondary characters like Mandy and Georgie detracts from the show's original charm. Despite a notable decline in quality in the later seasons, the series remains a delightful watch for fans of "The Big Bang Theory" and newcomers alike.
